Hi am Sophia and welcome to Omafufu

Faith. Family. Fun. Three words to sum me up. I am a London born and raised Ghanain/Namibian, figuring out this part of life they call adulting and sharing what I see and learn with you all. Omafufu is the word for ‘hair’ from the Nambian Oshiwambo dialect.

This blog is a space to talk about the things I love, in the hope to grow a community and learn from one another. Stick around to read more about my hair journey, being a mother to a toddler whilst living in Texas with my husband away from our family.

My Story

In 2016, a week after saying ‘I do’ to my Hus-bae, we packed our lives in 5 suitcases and moved from the concrete jungle of London to the Sunny San Antonio Texas.

Generally speaking, I am quite social media-shy, but after starting my loc journey in 2018, I was encouraged to start blogging as a way to share my experiences with those interested. Living away from my immediate family and then giving birth to my first child in 2018, really pushed me to write about more than my hair journey, but the struggles with parenting in an unfamiliar place, the difficulties with finding community before and after that and the amazing and great ways I have been able to make San Antonio home, even when ‘putting myself out there felt awkward.

The desire is for this platform to not only be a place for me to share but for us to create an online tribe that can grow.
