Locs glorious locs – there is so much that you can do with them. Whether you are going out with your girls for brunch, going to celebrate some friends at a birthday dinner or attending the 4th Friendsgiving pot-luck of the season, you should never be stuck trying to find a simple but chic style to match the vibes.
Here are 6 simple styles that will elevate your look for any occasion. Don’t let anyone tell you locs are not versatile.
- Curls Loc Style
Curls are a go-to for many when they want to transform their locs. There are so many ways to achieve curls or crinkles on locs. Traditionally people use perm rods, but you also go for a flexi rod or pipe cleaner set too. If you don’t want to mess around with rollers you could always try a braid out or twist out which double up as beautiful styles before you even take them down. The aim with any of these methods is that they get maximum drying time to ensure curls and crinkles are defined and long-lasting.
2. Slick Back Loc Bun
This style is simple but effective. You get the sleek and sophisticated look whether you have a fresh retwist or not. Depending on the length of your locs, there are a few tricks and tips you could use to keep your bun intact. The key is always going to be a lot of hair ties and bobby pins. If your hair is on the shorter side try using a hair net like this to keep the shape and flyaways tamed. Alternatively, a trusty Hair Donut can help in keeping the shape just how you want it.
3. Faux Bangs and Braided Top Bun
If your locs usually hang down or are usually tied up in a ponytail, this style is a real step up without the use of rods and rollers. I was so in love when I tried it. I saw a variation of the look on Youtuber’s ‘Keepin’n UpWith Chyna’ and ‘WestIndieRay’ channels and knew it was a style I had to try. Take two rows at the front middle section of your head, take a loc and wrap it around to create a sort of cocoon. For the bun, create 4-6 chunky braids secured with rubber bands. Get your bobby pins and scrunchies to keep the bun in place and voila! This style, though it might seem like a lot of steps, took no more than 15-20 minutes. This is definitely a look to try.
4. Braided Top Knot
If you want something a little simpler without the faux bangs from the previous style, try the sleek braided top knot without the extras. This simple look still looks elegant and the braided bun adds some interesting texture and height.
5. Half Up & Half Down
There are many variations to this style so there are many ways to add your flair and character. I love this look with a kind of messy top knot and a couple of strands of locs hanging at the front. Feel free to add some hair jewellery to jazz it up a little.
6. Bantu Knots
This style is such a vibe. You are guaranteed to be complemented at least three times whilst your rock it. These tiny buns all over your head really give a retro look. It is a chic way to tuck all your ends away and gets you standing out for that special event.
